Life Developments and Careers
A few weeks ago I made the decision of a lifetime. I was flicking through a section of The Age called the Green Guide when I spotted an advertisement for a popular Melbourne Apple reseller. How did this advertisement catch my eye? What caught my eye was the mention that this store was hiring. Curious, I went over to their website to find out what positions they had available. To my delight, this store was looking to hire a “Junior Apple Service Technician” – no previous experience required.
My dream job has just come up.
I tidied up my résumé and wrote up a cover letter before sending it off to the Service Manager at the store. Within 20 minutes of emailing my details I received a phone call from the Service Manager asking me to come in for an interview. 48 hours later I was in an interview with the Service Manager and the Sales Manager of the store. My interview lasted between 20 and 30 minutes. Once the interview was over, I felt so awesome.
The next day I received another phone call, this time it was the best phone call ever. The Service Manager was on the phone to say that I was the newest employee of this store and that he’d like me to start the following week.
I was ecstatic.
Wait, I still am ecstatic.
I have worked there for 11 days now and it has been some of the best days ever. Every day I face new challenges of fixing and playing with Apple (and related) products. I find it amazing that every day I wake up and think “Yeah! I have work today!”
If you’re going to take anything away from this little story, it should be this:
The best things in life are often unexpected and can be found in the least likely of places.
